Part 2 of my Flag How ToCrafting anything is always more fun when you have friends to bounce ideas off of. So I pretty much make it a practice never to craft alone. Well okay, maybe "never" is a strong word, but I'd say I rarely craft alone. I mean you need your REAL friends there to let you know that what you think looks great, really looks like poo. That being said... making spirit flags falls into the category of "crafting", which means that I needed a crafting buddy. My friend Liz (who had the brilliant idea to do this How To) gladly volunteered.

So our mission for today was to make 4... yes you heard it right, 4 spirit flags. Did we complete our mission? OF COURSE NOT! But we did make some great progress and feel particularly proud of the fact that we will not be burning the midnight oil on the night before these puppies are due.

Now I present to you... A Tale of Two Flags

Yesterday we showed you how to prepare your flag canvas using Gesso to prime and stiffen your material. The huge advantage to doing this is that if you decide to have a white background to your flag (which I did) then you have cut out a HUGE step in your flag making process. Why? Because Gesso is white! Score one for me!

But today is all about the accessories... the bling, the fru-fru, the sparkle that you can add to your flag to give it that POP-A-COLOR, and that shot of WOW! But how do you know what to choose from the thousands and thousands of items that your local craft store has to offer? Aahh why it's elementary my dear crafty friend... a theme. I love a good theme. Whether it's for a party, a craft, a room I plan to decorate. A theme just makes me happy because I have a jumping off point as well as some boundaries.

So what were our themes? Liz's was lions and mine was stars. Now you can go in several different directions with these, but let me give you a super great tip. THE INTERNET!! You can find tons of ideas to help you find some inspiration. Liz went the way of The Lion King. I chose to go the All Star route. So lets start with the border materials.

NOTE: Before you start to add any of the items to your flag, you must either sew or hot glue the pole sleeve on your flag. This will allow you to cover the seam with whatever you choose to use for your border.

Border

Now with a theme like The Lion King you have some great inspiration pictures out there to help you with the graphics. To carry through the theme, what better material to use on your border than craft fur. Yes it does have a tendency to look like some random hairy man's chest... but it's FUN, and creative, and really who wouldn't love fur on a flag?

For the All Star theme flag, I decided to go with a colorful star grosgrain ribbon. Another option would be to find a cotton fabric that either matches the color scheme or the theme that you are going with and use that to create a border around your flag.

Now I personally prefer to put my border on the canvas prior to adding any of the added graphics or lettering to my flag. This is simply because I want to have a definite space to work with. Believe me, there is nothing worse than spending lots of time drawing out a lady bug on your flag only to find that part of it is going to be covered by your border. Live and learn!

Because of the border that Liz was using, it was easier (and necessary) to do her graphic before adding her border. This takes a bit more planning, but sometimes it is necessary.

To add some stability to your flag, you want to insert a wooden dowel into the top and bottom borders of your flag. Now these dowels will be way too long for your flag, and I am not a fan of power tools that could possibly cut off some fingers. SO... these pruning sheers are my best friend for this part of the project.

Graphics

Once your base color has completely dried then you can start to add the detail. Liz printed out a picture of The Lion King Musical poster and used that as a guide for her flag. She first drew it out in pencil and then went through and added the black paint.

What if you don't have a super steady hand and don't want to outline a graphic using a paint brush? A black Sharpie marker is a great tool to add some dimension to your graphics. It is so much easier to outline not only pictures and shapes but your lettering as well. It really helps everything pop and stand out.

Lettering
There are lots of different ways to add lettering to your flags. Stencils, stamp letters, chip board letters, wooden letters, vinyl lettering, felt letters, foam letters or just free hand writing. There are so many possibilities. If you have a theme then you can choose a font that goes with your theme. Again, the internet is a great tool for this.

I have a CRICUT machine, so that is usually our first choice for lettering options. For Liz's flag we downloaded African font from the internet and then used it to cut out the lettering.

I wanted a font that would have the feel of an athletic letter jacket, and Freshman font did the trick. I also chose a handwritten font to add some interest. We did notice that the vinyl didn't completely stick to the canvas. So to solve this problem we just gave the whole canvas a quick coat of decoupage. Problem solved!

The Final Result

I absolutely LOVE how this flag turned out. So different and fun! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

And I LOVE how fun and colorful the ALL STAR flag turned out. This one may have been one of the easier flags I've done.
Okay, so there you have it. Now go find a reason to make a flag!!
(A Class Flag How To) Part 1HoLy BLoG SlaCKeR BaTMaN!! Has it really been almost 8 months since I've visited my own blog? That's what happens when you are totally busy with life, and kids, and life, and crafting. But I'm getting my MOJO back! School has started and Halloween is just around the corner so I'm ready to get to some craftin' (as we say here in Texas).

Okay, so in Texas we have some spirit... LOTS of SPIRIT! (Have you seen the way we love us some football?) We start them young here, and we are super proud to wave our spirit flags. We even have spirit flags for our classes. Yes you heard it right, Class Spirit Flags! We get all sorts of creative on these flags. From bling and boas, and Angry Birds and 3D animals. The sky's the limit... well actually the size of the canvas is the limit, but you know what I mean.

So since some people out there may be a little intimidated by making a spirit flag, we thought (this is my friend Liz's brain child) that it would be a great idea to put together a HOW TO. This is Part 1 which is the preparation of your flags. Ill also be giving you some great ideas and tips. Part 2 will be how we put together our own flags for this year. So you'll have to come back to see how this year's flags turn out. Just remember, you don't have to be Martha to make a fun and cute flag. It just takes some patience, paint, a glue gun and a HOW TO. Now lets get to crafting!

First things first... supplies:
-canvas fabric (you will need the fabric to be 4 inches longer on the side where the pole will be and another inch longer all the way around to make up for your border.
- Gesso Canvas Primer
- foam brushes
- regular brushes
- 2 wooden dowels
- glue gun
- paint
- gems, fur, additional colorful fabric, glitter, or anything else you want to use on your flag.
- PVC tube ( this will be the pole used to hang your flag so the length is up to you.)

Before you start prepping your flag, you need to measure about 4 inches from the end of the flag. Draw a line and fold over your fabric to meet that line. If you are handy with a sewing machine you can sew a straight line down the edge here to make the pocket for the pole. If you aren't then your handy dandy glue gun will do just fine.

Now it is super important to paint an even coat of Gesso all over BOTH sides of the canvas. You want to give it about two coats on each side. Without this, any paint you put on the flag will just be sucked up by the canvas, which means... more paint and more coats. So believe me Gesso is your best friend on this project. Plus it makes the canvas stiff and this is a good thing when adding all kinds of fun things to your flag.

Once your primed canvas is completely dry, then you can begin drawing your image or painting your base color on the canvas. I recommend using just regular acrylic craft paint for this. It's easy clean up and the coverage is really good.

Over the years I've done a variety of flags... from simple to wow! It is really up to you how you do it. I have found a few tricks along the way though.

* If you're doing a flag with an animal theme, don't be afraid to use a stuffed animal. By cutting it in half and hot gluing it to your flag, you get a 3D look with a lot of impact. Add a pair of child size sun glasses and you've got a Kool Kat

* Look for fabrics or trims that add to the overall theme and affect of the flag. Fur around a lions mane and jungle type fabric for the trim finish off a fun Jungle Lion themed flag.

* Make your flag colorful and fun for the kids to look at. Also experiment with different fonts and mix them together. You can use chip board letters, stamps, stencils, vinyl letters. It makes for an interesting look!
In October we had some remodeling done to our house. This was something we had waited and waited for and although we were so excited about having it all done, it took waaaayyyy longer that we anticipated. But now the house is back together with new floors, new furniture, and a Restoration Hardware feel. LOVE IT! So I figured I needed some fun Valentine's Day decor to go with the new look. So we had a...
I have a FABULOUS group of friends who love to get crafty. Our monthly Craft-a-paloozas had been put on hold since I was basically out of decorating/crafting commission, so needless to say we could not wait to get our craft on. We scoured the blogs, stalked out Pinterest, and prepared, prepared, prepared. After lots of laughs, paint, and vinyl, here is what we came up with...
Kids are shopping for school clothes, parents are helping their kids move into their college dorms, and FOOTBALL is getting ready to start. For a while there we were really unsure if we would be able to partake in America's favorite sport which would have made me pretty sad. I'm sure we could have found a reason to have a tailgate party even without football, but I'm pretty sure grilling and drinking in a university or NFL football stadium parking lot without an actual game going on is prohibited.

As I drive though my neighborhood I am treated to the array of school flags hanging outside of the homes. It is not unusual to see the Red River Rivalry going on in the front yards on many streets. We do love us some football here in Texas and even have several movies and a TV show to display our proud spirit for our teams.

Well I've come up with my own school spirit decor. I made this for Preteen's teacher at the end of this year. She is an Arkansas alum and her daughter will be a freshman there this year. She LOVED it!!

What a fun gift to give your college students.

Here is another one I made for a friend who bleeds Aggie maroon.

The possibilities are endless with these things. Sororities, school names, teacher names. Great way to show school spirit!
But they really have to practical. I can't tell you how many times I have found the little squiggly eyed poppers at the bottom of a closet or in the car, and they eventually made it into the trash. So when it was time to start planning Pre-teen's birthday party, my creative wheel's started turning. She decided that she wanted to have a swim party, and it had to be a Luau theme. Okay perfect, since at the time the Dollar Store had lots of cute Luau themed items. From tiki cups and leis, to fun little signs and grass skirts. We did it all. But when it came to the party favors, I wanted the girls to be able to really use them. It's my mommy side... if I'm going to pay for it, I want them to be used.

So I decided to make some monogrammed towels. Now I don't have a fancy sewing machine that does monogramming so I had to get creative. And I really wanted to include some fun fabric. I found a fun black and white polka dot fabric and used it to add each girl's initial to their favorite colored towel.

What do you think?
I love how they came out. Each towel cost about $5 to make, and was totally worth it. The girls loved their towels and were so surprised to find that they got their favorite colors.

My daughters are now asking for all their things to be monogrammed. I think I'm kind of having a Laverne and Shirley flashback.
We only have 28 days left until our little ones head back to school in our little part of the world... not that I'm counting, and I was itching to make something cute for Drama Queen to use as her backpack this year. Last year it was a combined use of a "roller" backpack, which can cause some minor accidents and pileups in the hallway at school... not my favorite backpack, and this tote bag that I made for her last year. I still love to see my girls use them.... So in true Drama Queen fashion, this year's bag had to be stylish, fun, and different.

After a visit to my favorite (hubby's least favorite) store - HobLob - I was back home with this...

For the last few months, I've been hosting a Craft-a-palooza. In it's simplest terms its a craft marathon where a group of friends gets together as soon as we drop off our kids at school and we craft until it's time to pick them up. Lets face it, it's always more fun to craft with friends, so that's what we've been doing. Now granted, trying to nail down a day when everyone is free is a challenge, but we manage and it;s always so much fun.

So a few weeks before we start to scour the web for fun craft ideas to go along with the theme of the month. Obviously this month's theme is Easter... and all I can say is with the crazy schedules we all have right now, thank goodness Easter is late this year.

We found so many wonderful crafts that some very talented women have made and posted to their blogs. We put a little spin on some of them, downright copied others, and then created some of our own.

We made these... that we altered from this idea

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioBzou5GMTq9kcY9KQxIrQr0L7Ggv4NcVM1niQpa0x8IrrphtqU8F6M-WlQ3XSRbUMh7pirPQTpkL_QV8Na0JlOWw3OwFV7n0x6-JYTqOvkQz6sWLqFfNuIBZX2Ss1kRUuvYS3VWXucyYP/s400/crafts+made+029.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629306254112804786" />

We loved these PB knockoff eggs and just had to make our own

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJpDLNHzOBJnSUn0lri0q-xmt9x_0x30hspkPLEXjRcZSYzBRUiKVmz-gJ8TFjeCjFFUvn_FhjY4TlNXucaflXrmGZPYZqCBeNKzDoePyd4CidstIfSyrX6O2rhcRV15RwwM_lV5R5IBvW/s400/crafts+made+042.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629306647020080354" />

I absolutely loved this wreath and HAD to make one of my own. What a brilliant idea. Although I decided not to use the spray foam and opted to use grocery bags to add the padding to the wreath. Great way to be "green" while crafting... I thought.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2Nre2K4h62Kwvy9BoHvruHe0Wk0JpDTZt03ECIIE45hIYOujnt1nujbibHvyQ2W6TDfcb3rm69WVGXaCf_6SQV0cLhJAhdGXrEwhyphenhypheny8S03lFInpSTM_kgX9NX07UKTcV6e_8s2quEBKYH/s400/crafts+made+040.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629306272070696930" />

Then we made this fun and simple little frame. I love the idea that life is "renewed" in the spring.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1aldO9XfbNNCEXE7EIVVmufTPHWorcWjfSRLN0T3amtAUnx7AqJGp0YTbc_D6z7sxZSdAZnKdyUEqejY3wrGgwVnlLhN1bFpuWtdyZl0AJLmvO3EXIsivYPvt7YiIIPj7gkGMlueeL7-m/s400/crafts+made+035.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629306268971522882" />

And finally I used a silhouette template I found on the web to make this little guy...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVrWw7KuU8OYY1N8dCQ7wR1sG7Vi_RQJxp_eHwFLE3CogCNjILTtIOwOle7XNfUzyOksIhyAaK2hVMIX2AGOBGP5kaMYk3MA4Q4GPvTETzTAcwIJwRFuuc6Z8Lwhj_ne4DYCqeSANmErmA/s400/crafts+made+026.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629306251835992514" />

I love how he turned out. As you can imagine... after all this crafting I am exhausted! Fun but super exhausting day.

Stay craftyDebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00705186147281239555noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2905958483329259464.post-204662298777380342011-02-04T14:36:00.000-08:002011-07-19T13:52:41.340-07:00A VALENTINE PILLOW... MY WAYWe seriously had a hard weather week last week. We were iced in... and snowed in... and we really need to get out of here. Don't get me wrong, I love being at home, but seriously - we were going on our 4th day of being at home and not because we wanted to. We just weren't brave enough or maybe it's crazy enough to venture out on those crazy streets out there. Although the crazy was starting to set in at one point, and if we were forced to stay in another day we would have had to have found us a sled and some dogs somewhere.

I wish I could say I was super productive and cleaned my house from top to bottom and was just super crafty... but I wasn't. I spent WAY too much time on a little site called Facebook. Have you heard of it?? It's evil. Too bad Zuckerberg doesn't make money based on how much time people spend on Facebook, because he would be so much richer than he already is I tell you. (The Junie B. Jones hasn't worn off yet... sorry!)

Anyway, I figured that since I was at home I should at least attempt to do something creative. Hmm, what to do, what to do... when you can't run to Hobby Lobby because you might get stranded and the hubster would so not be happy about that.

Once again I was forced to use what I had on hand. I'm starting to realize that I have a lot on hand.

I used this...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEf3RL4R07wJxh0zw28Q7cY_9xtJXxvhDLOsVsy-q_sPGzheXq-F8oZrqd0SYTomsQ6Hmb1YuEPUtwBLiWZGWzvqNOyyMGfyFEzM4Kuakdv3gMe_9rivBctEWkpI89JxL27x2JKxI2bHI/s400/DSC_3003%255B1%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571346543328025426" />

and this...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXhxgFeC-a4xYfJIFqBca_rW8TW-ov8cQq1_V16Iu5bqBvAFwOfFCXUQYAmR5Baj7kshHbHs30m4yqOGcVDD2lib2B6SgUDoR4jk4HRAkDzrCoACaPkokicdDJQnIUf8TutL6eckJWg0A/s400/crafts+made+024.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571347279099655410" />

and a template from this blog...

Then I used this...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8gwkw2cWF7UbjT035zhDMPqHsmuJGztty_GObA8eUPH8ueVJi1p9Bz4tXQ76Eqs1iHm2tnEYUq73nqWMkgaCK4yodV_TAkPtsDCx7PhMxwQnmvgNCmsnaPms2D27h9D6aQfFGyKWAhyphenhyphen0/s400/crafts+made+023.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571347284928685298" />

and cut off this...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo9rISv-7HtfRLOqb43-XXD22i6tX6OhzYasDajXQzuODthubwOSorbK454XPiHgDUL2h7IrnvecWRY_002Ijkh6Q7tnexheuMcoOCk-CM3_HP7Zci-Z2AurN9JqOYuEzJLKN5EWlRYE4/s400/DSC_2990%255B1%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571346544725565586" />

to make this...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVaK0djnMglOqvj-uZTlLHD7cHNLGBGVqPcgxt2mZpsnIenBsmHxDOitekdmoBGMx5cc98PBHRTdhyphenhyphen7_JZ51K-JqQqfA9F25fh9F-hC5TYPxxAN6-lb_yVTRZHwnax6SnGNyO42fROCzg/s400/DSC_2991%255B1%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571346550545788930" />

and in the end I had made this....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ8QBbGF3Z-xjwcA5oQCDPfqrcV7PB9IsYEWD9RJvNUYw_w99vkPPQobg0JPD2iomSVgUXC34QR1zOM4Vb0G1XnioB9pZd45dOnkzOu7vzdFYMgaI55gxLnJVONnsB97Uq8oJyLr8hBgc/s400/DSC_3002%255B1%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571346553171622034" />

I love it!! And it looks so pretty on my chair. I loved it so much that I had a little drawing on my FB page and gave one away. So now I'm thinking I need to make some more of these for other parts of my house...

Then I think, "But will I make it?" and then I see the price and I know I will totally make it. This was one of those times. I recently saw some super cute frames with crosses in them. Of course this was during Neath the Wreath and I'm totally not shopping for myself, so I put it into my mental "I Can Do That" folder, and move on. So I've been collecting frames, and crosses and ribbon and... well if you could see my craft room you'd see I'm collecting a lot of stuff for future projects.

So a good friend of mine was having a birthday, and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to make one of these super cute frames. I started out with a nice black frame.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgax19I8k74SSmGc4AOKRmlhLly3fH15xEmCqjnBv4jOFABxpMri269CQM-2Gi86bs97LGN4ZseddCz575MP7hnKWFb_avA1dufIladldo8dqXA0SP_uKdDyelubLOxc7XyiQbs5q55BXk/s400/crafts+made+004.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567362466392180082" />

Then I covered the glass with some cheetah fabric I had left over from my Christmas tree skirt I made this year.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZT9OvtlmngdAEOjAjlXavlA5-hneER6G3PjsSQ5eBiDxdD4omBRbtPL_8yHrqG_02oFhgVwFgg7yOXEwGPax0hosNwxcqP14RH_IhEsAYuoPZML_qAguOhVvwfAUiYsrXsJgIVTFViVs/s400/crafts+made+006.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567362469477051874" />

I then forgot to take pictures of the next two steps. I hate when I do that. So you'll just have to imagine it. I made a double layered bow out of some pretty brownish ribbon that I had and I hot glued it to the top of the frame. Then I hot glued two different crosses to the center of the frame. I love this layered look. And if you have a good imagination, this is what you get...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width:268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdoVi_06xT-TY11bEMY9itLBFyNMQxU606mJ-5PwVI97-xUnJVshIffo-jvCL9wYo2tDxh5G12UDL6mxt7KG768fsHeKGZEZ2SDXaWOOtJPUPLvOesy-EKcgBPrO2jli9kfWrz4VXqaJg/s400/crafts+made+010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567362474666755266" />

Okay, now I have to make one for myself!Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00705186147281239555noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2905958483329259464.post-35270876566363648542011-01-22T20:56:00.000-08:002011-07-19T20:59:23.592-07:00A LITTLE V-DAY LOVEI have been so super busy the past month and really just haven't been all that crafty. Subbing for a first grade class will do that to you. So when you get that sudden "craft itch"... well, you've gotta scratch it. (Does that sound inappropriate... oh well)

So earlier this week, I noticed that my house just wasn't feeling so festive. I mean Vday is just around the corner for God sakes, and I didn't have a heart in sight. February is my birthday month, and I want to be surrounded by fun and beauty I tell you. (I've been reading a lot of Junie B. Jones this month, so "I tell you" has suddenly become part of my vocabulary. Go figure I would actually pick up something.) Well in an attempt to add some love to my house, I set out to make something with what I had on hand. The thought of going to Hobby Lobby at the end of the day with two very tired little ones, dinner to make and papers to grade was just honestly too much for me to attempt. So I searched and moved, and emptied and, well just basically made a huge mess of my craft room. But in the end I found what I needed and what I thought would work. I can honestly say, I am super proud of what came from the mess of a craft room. Who knew that MDF, scrapbook paper, modge podge and furniture tacks could look so cute?

Hmmm, well now I'm thinking there must be something else in that huge stash of stuff I can use to spread even more love. So guess what I'm doing today??Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00705186147281239555noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2905958483329259464.post-90044708921111743182010-12-01T21:00:00.000-08:002011-07-19T21:03:24.522-07:00A SUPER EASY TASSEL TUTORIALLittle things make me happy. Yummy smelling candles, blingy jeans, Sonic ice, my kids putting their dishes in the sink. Really it's the simple things... and I do love me some easy to do crafts. So I thought I would put up a tutorial for those who want to make their own tassels so you could see they are really pretty stinkin' easy to make.

First, you need an ornament with a flat base. Really... it doesn't even have to be an ornament. It could be a small snow globe, a cute knob, just as long as it's flat on the bottom. So for this tutorial, I went to Target to find this super cute Santa that my friend Julianne used for her tassel.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 402px; height: 600px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIakmQgfngQCXJiBgRv0pI1FEw5Z5sW9NSKVqH4bs1kYgLdhbsRjLixMiB_0V_J4CLjlYMVmVM6Xh3sExN3g8PR45ahm2XLZW2_0oDsQ_bIEdIPmrjzC-3dIaY5X_jfY0O4-L7T9k_ITU/s400/xmas+crafts+020.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545899435594973970" />

and you need one of these little wood things... they are called candle cups, although really I've never seen these used for candles.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 402px; height: 600px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq6ksVjkWCKgJvaIMRgrDbWjdv0wpvNRtoWeUhaNtRuJ27Nd9Pe1kuV8Ns4PAFBBUOWE8UQ7ZP_ld2R3wUVOuEnNXe7LaiqROX9sANmU7FISIO0DG8FJesuPPmB99OOen6Gvf2DGBBisw/s400/DSC_2560.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545900476390001106" />

You glue the candle cup to the bottom of your ornament.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 402px; height: 600px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjudYPQAnxzLk_T-eJuHWjeob2Jy23_HuXEB437Vx4C3irTqkLzNtGxvL4jpp0HDoliSVHLPfcSxCkqdO-kOjqBrmQZfs7dSf7xNp79_eTMfvtRFYH1kaIoCt7qIt0DSLaexmwZBjWGWU0/s400/xmas+crafts+022.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545902431575217746" />

Next you find fun ribbon that coordinates with your ornament. If you're like me, you have lots and lots and lots of ribbon (don't tell my husband). So find yourself some cute ribbon and start making loops. I can't really give you a length since really it depends on your personal preference how puffy you want them.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: 402px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBXXI6RGLSAe2gymCBUFzXmeEXnKPAxYH17kYl71m1JhBlI3yU2Vz49WbRKdSsfr0KcYYghkfRwATEa-z079_SQ5dRbBeNM-pNayudCziM_VYB6hQ1yVkpANvqKjdRqGHHn-bYrXpbe94/s400/xmas+crafts+023.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545902442302467938" />

Then you start hot gluing them to the candle cup in rows starting from the bottom and working your way toward the ornament.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 402px; height: 600px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMj1rd0zsvFOk5IQ3CihNTHwFWlbfC7vhyoCgnKaJZmZrrnl52FafHiusx2BTF33uX05Z6IEYSABok4X3ZBgdmCvlAWWNcAFHpHMZ2-q17P_8iY995UD_VYUOmWM35AiHL22su3Fa8FVU/s400/xmas+crafts+025.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545902460635775986" />

Then you just continue to layer the ribbons until you make it to the top of the candle cup.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width:402px; height: 600px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5oeTNamJ2MC6KJm4jS6DajgNuVc6zYsg9flfJzixcxzEbVzcTs_Ww683q7YaDDAyRd82meIoBaLWV2UQdUUkO8xmzDJYCWNe8E0SOrFBxBLPdOB_rFIK9mwh3b1kPFKKEtMTw6A3YnnQ/s400/xmas+crafts+027.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545922297058292290" />

Once you're done with that, then you add some kind of trim or a fun boa to cover up the ends of the ribbon... and it makes it super fun too. You can also add some to the inside of the candle cup just to finish it off. You could also add cut ribbon or fringe to the bottom to lengthen it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 402px; height: 600px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_7iMI7hZY4kkM2MozC0VIwis0eMMik4weQqzaI7x9je7RXFdmOUSxfWxUlcVsvdtPWNXsXlfepHY96oRldGHI1oOSFcF4BV8X4xjV3h596-rLGx7cRMTyTmY8TpoD4hC-_tJb4-jRTb8/s400/xmas+crafts+028.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545922304785333490" />

And voila! You're done and you have a fun, cute and unique tassel. These would make cute gifts don't you think??

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 402px; height: 600px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5sFzCuZE2z51qWR-IesCQTb_AChlfNAs42wOp-5A_N0XcxSf6hAqatRoGJ4M2Nfzwn9bYX5lSMfRu8ijDobePny9bMP9gCj2WiV5BpwQLuIS-4UhhkVPR34jKOx2Zd2MuDCKa4anTpSM/s400/xmas+crafts+029.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545922305314627458" />

Make sure you send me photos of what you create. I'd love to see them!

I'm also linked to this party...

We are definitely feeling festive and crafty today. Still have a couple of other little crafts we are working on. I'll be posting those tomorrow. So make sure you check back!!

*Ciao
DebDebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00705186147281239555noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2905958483329259464.post-69812163092218092702010-11-19T07:04:00.000-08:002011-07-22T07:28:07.807-07:00A CONFESSIONI have a confession to make. I get bored really easily. I don't mean with people or anything like that, but rather with what I'm doing and with the decor in my house. It must be the ADD... I tend to blame a lot on ADD. So like I said, I get bored and my hubby knows when it's happening. I apparently get this look in my eyes. Well, actually it's more like my eyes start looking at things in a way that says, "hmmm, how hard will it be to change things around?" This means trouble for my hubby cause he knows he will somehow be involved. Well, I left him out of this one.

Case in point... my dining room chairs. I really love my dining room, and I guess at some point in the past I really loved the chairs as well, but that time is long, long gone. The good thing is that it is actually super easy to recover dining chairs. By simply changing the fabric you can change the feel of a room. Take a look.

So here was my dining room chair.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 264px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTA5sGlHmO50x64uOOY2_5je1l16GT7lmC6L4oNXAxUdWqmxGCZgnSP_w3OTEs7GnPK02vzqXo41H8jgA_g6lmzdaeKAjzJo9iFNECW6K8Ai_54tU_uttgJiuWGfr33lGRNDScQfHkjQU/s400/backup+pics+from+nikon+975.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5541443161198819570" />

It was fine, but I just wasn't loving the fabric on the seat anymore. A little dated, and way too light when you have kids. There are so many things that I would have purchased differently had I known how messy kids are. That really should be written in all the books. It may have been, but somehow I missed it.

So I found a fun fabric and recovered the chairs ( which took me way longer than it should have but at least it's done ) and this hides the stains so much better... not that there are stains on them or anything.
and tada...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 264px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-JZgnUKimc9Zj4JPMtq9m-DoBJtVmHmV6MVZRql9rH14jHzGykPyeCs-o2wIsqRBCmIgY-zHtjqv54RnW4-_siKHXQRvnHTA0LhFDumu3LwOBaFS3Ggf659acSOJs-6WkGvZ6CrOX9Eg/s400/backup+pics+from+nikon+979.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5541443166579721346" />

Sooo much better, and I'm not so paranoid about eating in my dining room anymore.

-ciao
I have several of these (ssshh don't tell). A couple of years ago I got a Cricut machine... that would be back when I was BIG into scrapbooking (note to self... get some scrapbooking done!) I have to admit, I have used it more for my kids school projects than I have for my scrap books. They've had some super cute projects! I think this is the best, best product I've ever purchased. Lately I've been using it to organize. Organize? Yes organize.

I found these fun bottles at IKEA for my oils and vinegars. Super cheap... like $3. But I wanted them to look pretty, and whenever anyone else was cooking in my kitchen, they didn't know what was what. So I labeled them using my Cricut vinyl, and voila, instant cuteness.

Then I did the same thing to some simple oil and vinegar jars I have next to my stove...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhINxo5UjBcmY-mjhFttwvzqtG3PRVT3R5FdQxsptUd1Il60x7eD0fWSylCqno4Sqkm8I9figZf_vzqjSO51L4Bq-Ifs7rgKGMwog_agCKwbYoUXYFYvn6fyK3F6R2-MMhdUPlo4H-f-GM/s640/DSC_1929.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448186144855190466" />

Then I moved on to my storage containers in the pantry.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgITdeIDcChLd-8TEtvzu23ENOwIYKIkk60qhwALn_IVXc8rqU7xctCscP89riBB_MKQ3feQg_jemTPTbzNGEWspDc2yhaDgkfb3ZKrfCZBuTIU6tXdaM0DIWud8AZmYN3JPjGmYnH_nR4/s640/DSC_1971.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448192779667340322" />

And finally some glass soap containers I found at Target for the kitchen.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwJtfBg7SU1HfNKsDAgCJjiLfKuoRP0IJWfgYutrH_4uHI7JiWAdXcPApbfpu-gOiJ_w7VnEzBsMW5KoaSFcxqHIwNh8qinhPXnPjfyi1rub2KcM9tVJN5PgbnQyqkR-hltZyilRjbKk0/s640/DSC_1977.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448209140803024354" />
I think about what I will post and I get started and then am easily distracted. I seriously think I need ADD meds or something. I just have so much trouble getting things accomplished sometimes and it is soooo frustrating. I have gotten some things done over the past few months... some little and some big. Some for me, and some for others...

My friend Alexa bought a beeeaaauuutiful house a few months ago and asked me to help her with the decorating and drapes. It is an ongoing process but here are some drapes I made for her.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyJAYRSc14vxLqmnCsUkfjGHj2KigK5UACSNXibS7OM1LQzYsvrT2pL3OtmrUYlaDq6Bibn8pwZA8O7Vvx2SWgHQEkWsPl6lOEYT4mmBYqipOM9ny6ELTXoB8UJQPOHrDaCdppT0ZPBGE/s640/Alexa's+den+drapes.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448178208386595890" />
These are the drapes for her living room. Beautiful fabric.
These are in her dining room. These medalions were found at HobLob for like $2.50 on sale. They are fabulous!
And finally, after seeing this post on Shanty2Chic, I had to try it out. A set of 3 canisters for about $17. Super fun and different.

I love them. They are so fun, and since the lids are screw tops, the food inside doesn't get stale.

So now that I am back to blogging I am thinking of all these other things that I want to post about. Hmmm... what to post next???Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00705186147281239555noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2905958483329259464.post-5976912084874510752009-08-10T14:53:00.000-07:002011-07-23T14:58:14.075-07:00A LITTLE BURLAP GOES A LONG WAYWhen I think of burlap, I've always pictured fall decorations (scarecrows, pumpkins, etc.) I never really considered it as a decorator fabric until a few years ago. A friend of mine needed a window treatment for her son's room. To go along with the fishing theme, I used burlap to cover a cornice board, then attached a fish net from HobLob and some random fish thingies from the tackle box to it. It looked great. To carry the theme in the room, I also made a burlap dust ruffle for his bed. Super, super cute!!

Fast foward to our laundry room. Our laundry room is... well large... which is nice, but the room does double duty as an exercise room, which means I had to really think about the decor in there. I had to make the room somewhat masculine since my hubby is in there so much. So I started by painting the room a medium camel color, which is sooooo much better than the dirty white that was in there before. At least now I want to do the laundry.

As for the windows, I needed to make a valance of some kind so as not to have them ripped down with the weights. BINGO!! I opted for a yard and half of burlap which set me back a whole $4.78. Wow, talk about breaking the bank. Having sewn burlap before, I didn't want to have my "mistreatment" curling up on me, so... I glued it. Have I ever mentioned that I love my glue gun.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWmoEI8fx1gzs_2foVWPPzwHF_Vk3ip6RcRzAHoSJcIE1uoZDA3Zuj0FUdg79XbtTShwE_xc1LOd2ti-XB6-CmP6czdRnb3POEa-MnkaS9GzP_Ph9uAblM0NlyV9CSqXYOYocrx7p_-fE/s320/DSC_0810.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368471008287537538" />
Anyway, I folded my burlap in half ... longways, and cut at an angle to make a pointed end. Then I cut two strips of another fabric and glued it to the ends all the way around. I made a pocket at the top to slide the repurposed and newly spray painted rod through. Have I mentioned I love spray paint?

The result, a pretty, but masculine window valance that didn't break the bank.

With the extra burlap, I decided to recover a bulletin board I had made that just didn't thrill me. Then I hung it from a rod iron scroll. Love the new look of the laundry room.

I plan to make a cushion for the two boxes below the hanging rack where the girls can sit and put their shoes on. I'm still thinking I need to find something else for that though. I'm thinking maybe a narrow coffee table converted into a bench. I may have to make a trip to Salvation Army once school starts again.

I just love cheap redos.

Have a great day. Stay cool... it's HOT outside!!

*ciao*
She's got a whole lot of attitude in that little body of hers. So the other day, I found these denim totes at HobLob for 50% off which made them $2 each. I thought they would looks super "FABULOUS" if we just added some fun fabric to them. Luckily, I had some left over scraps from a previous project that would be perfect. Well as usual, my wheels start turning and I end up doing much more than I intended, but in the end... they are "FABULOUS!!!" What do you think??

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOC7kszry0TWxzqfBZ5LbqkOHU87nwGQMeDyfck36vjOT41dTY3HLJUnrGHBbGamexYxMajlkrUR4tcH9JvBnMvriskhR6pub75ge3HPPG2KpcTzQ5Wd4J-tgC8QvlpMV8atxDiAshA0s/s320/DSC_0801%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353123973018060050" />

So I start with this... plain Jane denim tote.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizBIgg9OWH1Oes8akf0685jn-8ALDO_b2b6DQWYjszL47JYVzh3e4w_Ma_KrcTNclFjiM9JE08WyXhyFYmwVxXQw2KqA5mDhOqvRqAvfXzkeZ7wOnJk5cIUscJJOtrfOtkENn4IblFcrw/s320/DSC_0777.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353126120743246450" />

Then I found a "peace" symbol online and cut and pasted in into a Word document.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiozySV-m1FoKq2iGlZc3JkevikyIOkS-hlbgEYJTyHg80QlZuIwHLuJsYxHf4XEcULhzqPAc2i7eAToFkIJz9SWs0_V5kL0Gj5EPopXHRNF1flIShLf_hIpTyQXMFFl5vXyh-MhrG1iaY/s320/DSC_0786%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353127659738488594" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi90bUG0wKlGXlaHhSpWh8si5F6bFJYWPNfehFPfEhBU2H2Hf2tjyniTBs3sIKr6aqJe1eoMVsY04Oy5hFjEity8LM2JXmoA5jdDtKM_xBdQ688sjFtEJMf5HmKVOgnid07lCd7gCkmJyM/s320/DSC_0787%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353127665603357378" />

Printed it and cut it out. Then I traced it onto the fabric and cut it out...(sorry I didn't take a picture of that.)

Then I glued it (yes glued since I didn't have any of that sticky iron on stuff that you put on fabrics). But I did use fabric glue, so at least I wasn't totally off the wall with that. Anyway, back to my story, I glued and then stitched the "peace sign" on the bag.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMOmUjDW6wJ7OVb46ybtnBJ4hr5kfNnl6HUfQmV1_wLEVlczN4IsseDqZ-8wkCb5J3NiU4M7Neelc6NtYFh4Hm7oq4TqgMN5Jmr-QbAGdOi8iz2YVNGTa-onyhEBON9Wz5RZTqJ_oUF0Q/s320/DSC_0781.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353129295292330562" />

Then because everything is so much more "FABULOUS" when it is blinged out even more, and because I just can't stop at mere cuteness, I decided to go on and do the inside too. So I measured (professional seamstresses turn away from the monitor and cover your eyes... I am about to do something that may make you spit!) This is my way of measuring... I put the bag on top of the fabric and just eyed it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGenfRqMaI5yLx7xIm2wEtqNND6bUTbE8XKl3IKkWLn0fOPdoj9FDQ_Y_TFpuxoSVYe-r7cXDyFEu3x9atyoD3j_VLRg-2mMy69THVMdSvzRLNfTt__HAoeD6kV00427P-N1hiqtgEuiE/s320/DSC_0789%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353208521071481682" />

Then I added in some pockets for water bottles, crayons, stuff...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjROSIjStch5hhAK81TwQp23wvon4wy3t9UOTrOLT4Q5KupMQPhM1BJKexxRIKm-YxXDJOZGMbmhsaiqFql176UhhwY0wRBaLJJx0s0GAYwFjk7PWmsnMpByIS-UkCFMZXYl17FBTP0rjg/s320/DSC_0791%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353205720969572674" />

I then sewed up the side that was open and the bottom and made a little pouch, that then slips into the tote like this...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqnhKPN2wyuOnEAjpV_baS2XYv74KYymmNuFP_Lbi1YVpC8ZBI9YrcIG9rkCcVEfa3UD9zCqX9OVu6WfjvMg1rJv1dX2hTbkUyJgOV2HsRrS2CKK5i0kvwQ0EZaZH72Jnuem6ZmT4_ozs/s320/DSC_0793%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353208529792306594" />

Then you pin the inside pouch to the outside tote (again, you seamstresses out there, just close your eyes and save yourself the frustration. I know, I know, just breathe in and breathe out!)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIAQJczfrX0nDqtJbzxkFyX-oAPHyS8VibcIAyZTQWpUTvzTubBIK1m2cb0n03QjxEbQnVeXtlveEGVwTWI7m0CJKtWhgH4o-FZ7EEy0ZaMgLZi4oEteVr1Kilt2Z0XE5HIGrA2QAivd0/s320/DSC_0794%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353208538549491266" />

oh, and one more thing... don't forget to change out your bobbin thread (is that what the bottom circle thing is called? I forgot and had to go back and remove all the "white" thread that was showing on my denim bag... aaahhhh!!! So yeah, don't forget to do that.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI_m2QrddvluUq00ss9j3rNCUN4M_SLu2rkbiRSSDlNvcP-5Zl9T67WpoDSgH2HAU1pO9bLRqUZii4AJHsCjLo9Y74hRI5MYpY70vjPFAw6kclWkSli5PKvyvbXLrw7qC7Vtdczx8-XzI/s320/DSC_0797%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353208540507281474" />

Then you sew, sew, sew and in the end you have a fun tote that is lined with fun fabric...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimR1iqqmiJlQZrUxkPs4r2s4XzHbWsLbwuwwjxb55wR8bi2wAMZqMi89A8-3EmDqxq-uCEOYJfQA3sbX61lKqDOHRG2Gx0FuzJHOSDD_tyqb8Eu4nywxzTwMv8N53XqGhWuhHhLc9IueA/s320/DSC_0800%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353210605766460466" />

and a little girl who thinks it looks "FABULOUS!!"

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMwRvL-vXLV-c243Hd8GbTQj_aHlekf-F6h8spUEvjhKbGDlhPVELGYeR3HlfatUtIHD5Q7A0ZmgMNFHCo-uQVJlKmFakR7mGCOO5Io8Fes-3SHnrfRE9NovkTs8OJz0WLg_NBokoBfCk/s320/DSC_0805.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353210607482283602" />

My girls like their bags so much, and Pre-Teen is even asking if she can use it as her back pack this year. Guess I saved myself some bucks with that one.

Have a great afternoon.

*ciao*
Hi I'm Debbie and welcome to my world. I am a Texas girl and a stay at home mommy to two girls... PreTeen and Drama Queen. What's it like to have two girls? DRAMATIC!! I sometimes think I need therapy... but I'm way too cheap. So how do I cope? Bargain shopping, crafting, organizing and decorating. Luckily this is something that my girls also love, and this gives us all a chance to bond over glue guns, paint, duck tape, and ribbons. I love a good thrift shop and Goodwill is one of my favorite places to find a hidden treasure. There is no bigger high than turning other people's trash into a fabulous treasure. I have to admit, I LOVE seeing people's eyes pop out when they ask where I got something and I tell them Goodwill.

What in the craft am I up to now? That is a question that I, and so many other people are constantly asking, as I seem to always have some kind of craft on the brain. Unfortunately, I have way more craft ideas than I have time for. Visit often and find out what crazy projects I come up with in the middle of the night when I can't sleep. Yes this is true. I do some of my best thinking at about 1:30. It must be the quiet.Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00705186147281239555noreply@blogger.com0
